For six to twelve inches in depth, we recommend either our topsoil blend, premium blend or screened topsoil mix. The topsoil blend is good for general planting. The premium blend is best for exotic plants or plants needing a lower pH.

We recommend the screened topsoil mix if you are planting in depths up to 24-36". For depths below two to three feet, you should use a subsoil (soil without organic material) or a proper fill soil. Topsoil or organic material should never be placed lower than two to three feet below the surface of the ground soil.

If you are making mounds, we recommend our screened topsoil mix. Be careful not to use soils with significant amounts of organic material for mounding otherwise your mounds will shrink over time.
